I get this question very often, How do I get started with affiliate email marketing? so today I decided to create a 10 steps guide to get started with email marketing. This guide is directed to people who promote other people’s products, so if you are one of them, please read on for my 10-step guide to affiliate email marketing!

Why email marketing?

Email marketing is the most profitable way to make money online, according to studies, for each $1 invested in email marketing, you can make up to $40 as the return of investment.

According to Hubspot: as of 2019, there are an estimated 5.6 billion active email accounts, and 99% of consumers check their email every single day.

If do you want to make really money online you need to start collecting emails and using the power of email marketing to drive more sales to your business.

So let us get started with 10 steps you can take to get started with affiliate email marketing.

Step 1: Pick your niche.

Before you send a single email, you need to figure out in which niche do you want to start email marketing.

My opinion in this is that you need to combine what you’re passionate about and what people can pay money for.

The problem of just going for money is that you will quit the first sign of trouble, and going for passion without knowing that people can pay for the service you offer, it will make harder for you to make money. 

Go for both passion and money.

Step 2: Find out the problem you’re going to solve in your niche.

After figuring out the niche that you are going to create your newsletter, the next step is to find out what are the problems people are facing in your niche.

For example, if you are in a weight loss niche, one of the reasons that most people can not lose weight is that they do not eat healthy food.

People are not making money online because they can not create content, they do not know how to build an email list, and so on. 

All these problems need solutions, just pick one problem, find out what is the solution and go to the next step.

Step 3: Create A Lead Magnet.

Now you know what are the problems people are facing in your niche, pick one problem and create a lead magnet that will outline the solution for their problem.

For example, in diet niche, you can create a lead magnet on how to pick the right diet for you, you can create a lead on how to make money using Twitter, or email marketing, you can create a lead magnet on how to find your life partner (in dating niche).

You can present your lead magnet as written content (pdf, newsletter, gateway content, etc), as audio, or as video. Just pick one way that suits you.

There are three ways that you can use to create your lead magnet if you have knowledge or you can do research, you can do it yourself. 

The second way is that you can pay someone to create the lead magnet for you, you can get someone in Fiverr, UpWork, or Iwriter. A good lead magnet can cost between $20 and $200.

The third way to create a lead magnet is to use private label right (PLR), there are many private label right sites that can sell you lead magnets for cheap, they give you permission to use them as your own.

My recommendation if you are going for this route is that after getting the PLR to change it a little bit so that it is not the same as others ( they sell PLR to many people).

Step 4: Choose an email service provider.

After you have your lead magnet, the next step is choosing an email service provider. Ideally, select one that can handle a lot of outgoing emails, offers quality analytics, and is optimized for global communication and affiliate marketing in particular.

There are a lot of good email service providers out there, but for me, I think Convertkit is the best at this moment. They have everything you will need from a modern email service provider.

Step 5: Create a squeeze page.

A squeeze page is a simple page that has just one purpose is to collect email from your prospects, you created a lead magnet that solves your prospect’s problem, now if they want it they need to provide you with an email address so that you can send it to them on their inbox.

It is a win-win situation, they get the lead magnet, you get their email address. This is what they call an ethical bribe, you are incentivizing them to join your newsletter by giving something valuable to them.

I used thrive themes to make this squeeze page, sometimes I use Clickfunnels, but if you do not have money to invest in thrive themes or Clickfunnels, you can use Convertkit landing page builder which you get for free with your free Convertkit account.

Step 6: Write a welcome email. 

When People Opt-in on your Squeeze Page. They Need to Receive an Automated Welcome Message containing whatever they opted in for.

Luckily for you, I have a sample email, one for you here containing the free gift for your subscribers.

The idea of the first email is that it tells people who you are, what they are getting ( the read magnet), and what they can expect from you (future emails).

Step 7: Promote your landing page.

After building a squeeze page, and setting up your welcome email, you need to start sending people to it. My recommendation is if you’re just starting and you do not have money, start driving traffic using Facebook or Instagram.

Do not do all three methods, pick one and stick to it for at least three months. 

After you make money then you can invest it in paid traffic to scale your business.

Step 8: Make your content better (and relevant).

The real secret of increasing the count of your email list is to create content, you will need to create better content, in quality and quantity.

In step 7 above I recommended starting with either Facebook or Instagram, what you need to do is to add one of the following, a blog, a youtube channel, or a podcast.

On those platforms you will be able to create better and longer content, people who consume your content will start to see you as an expert in the subject and they will trust you more.

Just remember to add your squeeze page in each of the content you are going to create, and in order to get content ideas, you can just ask your subscribers what they want to learn, most of the time they will tell you.

Use feedback and how your audience responded to change the way you present your content and get better.

Step 9: Recommend affiliate products.

Each time you create new content, log in to your autoresponder and send a broadcast announcing the new content to your subscribers.

When you find a product they do you believe will help your customer do the same write an email, outline how it will help them, and include your affiliate link.

Avoid becoming greedy and sending promotions about everything and anything that you can find affiliate link, only send relevantly and help full information.

Step 10: Scale it up

Test everything, figure out what type of content people in your newsletter like, what types of offers they respond to better, the idea is to do less of what is not working and more of what is working.

Also, use some of the money you get to invest in paid traffic, the more email you collect, the more money you will make.
